At the Aquarium....From Land to Sea

Where do you get inspiration for your card making?  I never know where mine is going to come from or where those odd ideas come from.  Guess it is best just not to question it!  I was given the assignment for a male birthday card for a workshop.  Hmm, something unexpected I think.  What about an aquarium?  Can I make it look like we have taken a trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium?  What do you think - did I pull it off?  At least a little bit?

The card actually folds flat but then becomes a 4 1/4"x5" card with a 1/2" between the front where Happy Birthday is embossed in Iridescent Ice embossing powder on the window sheet to the back where I stamped the coral in Early Espresso ink.  All of the wildlife and lighthouse were stamped on Whisper White and then cut out.

Since this card does not open, I placed a piece of Whisper White cardstock on the back of the card with the Birthday Blossoms sentiment and the adorable turtle.

Picture Perfect Stamp Set from 2016 Stampin' Up! Occasions Catalog..

Here is a card I made using the Picture Perfect stamp set from the 2016 Stampin' Up! Occasions catalog.  This was the first thing on my preorder.  Why, you ask - of course because of the starfish!  Remember, anything beachy, nautical, tropical, whatever - I am there!  Super easy card to make - just make sure that you only put adhesive on the bottom half of your circles!  Ask me how I know....

Also, I thought the Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper from the Sale-A-Bration catalog looked like the sea with seafoam and so I used it with this card.

Here is the inside of the card.  It is a little hard to see but I stamped the coral from By the Tide along with the Seahorse.  I think they go perfectly with this starfish.

Here is a video with a tip on this two-step stamping set.

Still Swimmin' By the Tide

Yep, I am still pulling this set out often! I just don't get tired of anything to do with the ocean. This is a tunnel card that we made quite awhile ago but I hadn't shared with you yet. I was planning on showing you how to make a tunnel card on a Technique Tuesday (remember those?) but I will do so using more current product in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I will just share this card.

Did you catch it? Technique Tuesday is coming back soon and I am hoping to have them be video! Of course you will have to bear through my getting used to talking while creating! If I chicken out, you will see the picture sequence back.

Here's what you will need to make this card:

  • By the Tide and Vintage Verses stamp sets
  • Pool Party, Soft Suede, Midnight Muse, Tangerine Tango and Whisper White Cardstock
  • Midnight Muse, Tangerine Tango and Soft Suede ink
  • Silver button and Pool Party button from SAB.
  • Baker's Twine

By The Tide.... Again! So versatile....

Here is a card that I case'd from Amanda Mertz. Thanks Amanda! I love this set and thought it would be an appropriate card for a male sympathy card. The coral was embossed using Pool Party embossing powder on Midnight Muse (I miss this color!). The images were stamped in Pool Party and Midnight Muse. The Pool Party strip was embossed using the Decorative Dots embossing folder and the ribbon is two strips of Coastal Cabana 1/8" Taffeta ribbon. The sentiments are from the Petite Pairs stamp set. The punches used are the Label Bracket and 1 3/8" circle punches.

By The Tide - One of My Favorites!!!

Here is a card that was made at a technique class I hosted.  This technique requires a good set of lungs!  Take a piece of glossy cardstock (boo hoo, Stampin' Up! no longer carries it) and place a drop or two of a reinker on it.  Take a straw and start blowing!  Blow at an angle in different directions.  Next, add another color of reinker and continue.  Finally take a paper towel and wipe off the excess.  During the wiping process, you will fill any white areas that were not colored by the blown ink.
We actually used a larger piece of glossy cardstock and cut it down to size.  We stamped the fish two times on the scrap portion and cut them out for the card.

Here's what you will need to duplicate this card:
Stamps:      By The Tide
Inks:           Midnight Muse, Gumball Green, Black StazOn
Paper:       Midnight Muse, Gumball Green, Whisper White, Glossy White
Other:       Fancy Fan folder, Midnight Muse ribbon
